Gas Line Capped After Leak Near San Ramon Sprouts

BREAKING: Businesses were initially asked to evacuate the area as a precaution.

SAN RAMON, CA — PG&E crews have capped a broken gas line that was damaged by a third-party construction company digging near a Sprouts Farmers Market store in San Ramon this afternoon. The gas leak was first reported around 12:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of Crow Canyon Place, according to PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian.

Sarkissian said PG&E crews responded to the scene and were able to stop the flow of gas at 1:25 p.m. Businesses were initially asked to evacuate the area as a precaution, but were let back in a short while later after the pipe was successfully clamped.

According to Sarkissian, a third-party contractor digging in the area damaged a 1-inch natural gas line.
PG&E crews remain on site this afternoon working to repair the damaged line, and police said on Twitter that there was no threat to public safety.
