Iron Horse Middle Schooler Hit By Car is Recovering, Father Says

The 13-year-old boy who was seriously injured after being hit by a car on March 15 in San Ramon is recovering at Children's Hospital in Oakland, his father said.

He's no longer in the Intensive Care Unit and has started his rehabilitation, which is expected to take at least six months.

The family has been asked not to be identified for privacy reasons.

"He's relearning the basics all over again" the father wrote in an email. "His prognosis is good, but even the doctors are not sure when and if he'll be back to his old self."

The boy was injured when he was on his bike entering the crosswalk at the Bollinger Canyon and I-680 on-ramp intersection, San Ramon police said.

At Iron Horse, the and was described as "a good guy to hang out with" and went out of his way to help others.

San Ramon police say the police report of the incident is expected to be released Friday.
