'It's Really A Miracle' Dad Says After Gunfire Missed Baby

A San Ramon family talks about how their baby was almost hit by gunfire.

SAN RAMON, CA -- A San Ramon family is still in shock Monday after their baby was almost hit by gunfire in their own home. Authorities said the youngest child in the Nicoli-Wallunas family was almost hit by gunfire when a neighbor, living above them, discharged a firearm.

William Millard allegedly shot down, which forced the drywall to come crumbling down onto the baby, said mother Tanis Wallunas. East Bay Times reported Millard faces a charge of possession of a shotgun but no charges "related to the firing of the weapon."

Wallunus recalled the terrifying incident to East Bay Times, saying they were in the hallway when the incident happened.

"The next thing I know I hear a loud bang coming from above me," she said. "I just grabbed her and my first instinct was the neighbors are shooting at us."

Father Alex Nicoli said, "It was very traumatizing. The baby's head was covered in drywall... missed him by inches."

"It's really a miracle that it didn't happen," he said.

As they recover from the incident, the family said they are disappointed more charges weren't pressed against Millard.
