Man Arrested In San Ramon Dies In Jail Cell: Sheriff
An inmate in the West County Detention Facility in Richmond was found dead, one of two East Bay inmate deaths reported recently.

SAN RAMON, CA — A man arrested in San Ramon died Monday at the West County Detention Facility, the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office announced. It marks one of two East Bay inmate deaths in the past few days.
The male inmate, whose name is not being released at this time, was arrested Aug. 22 by San Ramon police on multiple felony theft charges and was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
On Monday at approximately 1:56 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to an unresponsive inmate and called for jail medical staff to respond. Deputies, medical staff, and paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the inmate, who was housed alone, was later pronounced dead on the scene.

The death does not appear to be suspicious, the sheriff’s office said. The investigation is ongoing.
On Saturday, 30-year-old Abrion William McElmore, an unhoused man booked into Santa Rita Jail on multiple felonies, was found dead in his cell, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.
