SAN RAMON, CA — In the tech-savvy Bay Area, there's always a hot new product everyone's interested in. That means old models are thrown out, and often end up in landfills.

A group of San Ramon high school students aim to help both the environment and underserved communities through their nonprofit Recirqt, which collects used electronics and distributes them to students in need. To date, the group has recycled or repurposed over 300 electronic devices. If the technology isn't useable, Recirqt finds ways to recycle it in an eco-friendly way.

"Our mission is personal. We are students and understand firsthand the critical role that technology plays in education and career opportunities. This understanding drives us to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, has access to the tools they need to succeed," spokesperson Amar Puranik told Patch.
