SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Two separate speeding incidents along Highway 1 resulted in the arrests of teenagers this week.

The first arrest came shortly after midnight Wednesday, when the California Highway Patrol stopped two cars racing at speeds higher than 100 mph between Santa Cruz and Capitola, according to a CHP news release. Both drivers appeared impaired when they were stopped in the area of Bay Avenue at Hill Street and were ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI. Their cars were towed.

One of the drivers was Juan Serna Cabrales, 22, of Santa Cruz and the other was a 17-year-old Scotts Valley female who was not named because of her age, CHP said. She had several teenage passengers in her car.
