After Almost 50 Years, Acapulco Restaurant is Gone

The Acapulco restaurant, a longtime fixture at 1116 Pacific Ave., closed this month after almost 50 years as a family-run business.

According to reports, owner Mark Gularte was outbid on renting the property by Pizza My Heart. It's a strange irony because Gularte's family trust owns the building, according fans of the restaurant who declined to speak on the record. They also own the apartments upstairs.

The restaurant was remodeled in 2004, according to this review in Metro, and always served high-end, gourmet Mexican dishes.
