An El Niño Prep Workshop for Spanish-speaking residents on Jan. 7 will teach how to prepare their homes and families for extreme weather.

SANTA CRUZ — It couldn’t have happened at a better time.
The City of Santa Cruz will host Spanish-speaking residents in a workshop that will teach how to prepare their homes and families for extreme winter weather.
The El Niño Storm Preparedness Workshop will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, 6-8 p.m., at the Beach Flats Community Center, 133 Leibrandt Ave.

Booths representing City departments and community agencies will provide residents with advice and the opportunity to discuss their concerns with experts via Spanish translators.
The event, which includes a sandbag-making station, is co-sponsored by Pacific Gas and Electric Company and the Santa Cruz Seaside Company, who are providing free emergency kits to the first 75 families.
