SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The City of Santa Cruz is scheduled to begin the Escalona Drive Culvert Rehabilitation project on Tuesday, Feb 22. The project will rehabilitate the culvert located near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Escalona Drive and is expected to conclude by March 3.

The existing culvert has been clogged due to the buildup of calcium deposits causing the nearby creek to overflow onto the sidewalk. A portion of the existing culvert will be replaced with new pipe and junction box and the remaining culvert will be cleaned of calcium deposits.

During weekday construction hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic impacts will include the closure of Escalona Drive from Hollywood Avenue to Walnut Avenue. Traffic will be rerouted towards Walnut Avenue, King Street and Peyton Street.

The City apologizes for any inconvenience this construction work may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation. Any concerns or questions may be addressed to Engineering Technician Cina Seyedkazemi at (831) 420-5177 or cseyedkazemi@cityofsantacruz.com.
