Congressman Sam Farr Says Republicans Are Playing 'Silly Games'

Here is Congressman Sam Farr's statement about the Republican threat to shut down the government: 

"The American people elected members of Congress to work together to find solutions to our nation’s challenges, not to constantly play these silly games. Instead of joining with the Democrats and the White House to grow our economy and create jobs, the Republicans and their Tea Party wing have decided to once again hold our entire country hostage until the Tea Party’s demand to defund or delay the Affordable Care Act is met. The Republican Leadership has repeatedly put our economy at risk in order to satisfy the constant temper tantrums of the extreme right.

 

“This latest quest to delay the Affordable Care Act is particularly cruel because the American public is being forced to shoulder the burden. On October 1st, all federal employees will stop receiving pay and most government services will shut down. This will deny everyone access to beneficial federal programs and threatens millions of Americans – from military personnel to federal employees – who depend upon their paycheck to pay their family’s bills.

 

“It is time for the Republican Leadership to stop caving to these unreasonable demands of the Tea Party and work with those of us willing to search for common ground. We cannot continue to damage our economy with these self-inflicted wounds. I call on the Speaker to move past these political games and bring forward a CR that fully funds the federal government.”
