COVID-19 Outbreak At Santa Cruz County Jail Sickens 62

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office announced 62 COVID-19 cases were linked to an outbreak at the Main Jail in Santa Cruz.

The total number of confirmed cases included 55 inmates and seven correctional officers as of Thursday, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Nobody has been hospitalized or become seriously ill. Most of those patients were asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said it is "doing everything in our power to mitigate further spread," including offering weekly vaccine clinics, working with county public health officials, requiring staff to wear N-95 masks and testing and quarantining all new inmates.
