Don’t Rely On Luck: CHP Sends St. Patrick’s Day Reminder

California Highway Patrol is reminding people to avoid taking any chances after celebrating St. Patrick's Day.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Don't rely on luck. That’s the message California Highway Patrol is sending out this St. Patrick’s Day.

“However you plan to celebrate, the California Highway Patrol encourages you to do it safely, '' Officer Alyssa Gutierrez told Patch.

211 people were arrested by CHP last year on St. Patrick's Day for driving under the influence. CHP said also on that day, three people died and 76 were injured statewide as a result of DUI crashes.

“If you plan on drinking alcohol on St. Patrick’s Day, do not rely on luck and designate a sober
driver, use a rideshare service, public transit or a taxi to ensure you reach your destination
safely,” CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray said.
