Driver Sought After Car Found on Beach Below Highway 1

BREAKING: Officials searched for the driver of the car, which plummeted 300 to 400 feet before landing on the isolated beach.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Fire crews and California Highway Patrol officials conducted a search Sunday morning on an isolated beach near Davenport for a driver after a car that had apparently gone down a cliff was located there. CHP officials first received a report of a vehicle going off the road along state Highway 1 and down onto the beach at 9:42 a.m., just north of Davenport.

The vehicle had reportedly taken an estimated 300 to 400 foot dive down the cliff and landing onto an isolated beach, landing on its wheels. Cal Fire crews assisted in searching for the car's driver, however
crews were unable to locate anyone associated with the car, according to Cal Fire officials.

California Highway Patrol then took over the investigation and is working on removing the vehicle from the beach, Cal Fire officials said.
