The Election Is Over. What Should You Do With Your Yard Sign?

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Officials with the Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works are offering suggestions for reusing political signs rather than sending them to the landfill.

Nowadays, "most yard signs are a composite of materials that make them incompatible with recycling operations," the division noted in a news release, suggesting that if practical, signs can be saved and used again in future elections.

"Residents may also reuse or up-cycle yard signs by saving them and repurposing them for yard sales, lemonade stands or birthday parties," the division said. "They can also be broken down and repurposed as garden signs or for other smaller signage."
