Fire Causes $110K in Damage to House's Garage
Firefighters said a good Samaritan tried to help the owner get into the garage to look for the dogs.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A crew of 20 firefighters contained a blaze at the garage of a house in Santa Cruz on Tuesday, fire officials said. The fire was reported at 11:58 a.m. at 225 Highland Ave.
Firefighters had it under control within 15 minutes, but remained at the scene for three hours. The blaze caused $110,000 in damage to the garage, but quick action from fire personnel saved the homeowner an estimated $240,000, Battalion Chief Rob Young said.
The property owner had been worried that dogs were in the garage, but later found the animals safe and unharmed. A passerby, who had tried to help the owner get into the garage to look for the dogs, was exposed to smoke and fire but denied having any injuries when contacted by firefighters.
