Fire Department Saves $300,000 Structure Sunday

Santa Cruz Firefighters doused a blaze at a one-story duplex at 309 Gault St. at 8:34 a.m. Sunday, saving a structure valued at more than $300,000.

There was dark smoke pouring out of the building when they arrived bringing four engines, an ambulance and one truck. The fire was knocked down quickly and contained to a garage that had been converted to a bedroom. There was no one home and no one injured in the blaze.

It was reported to be an accident. There was $5,000 of damage to the contents and $20,000 to the building.
