Santa Cruz Sees Relatively Quiet Fourth Of July

Some 5,000 people came to Santa Cruz beaches — a far lower crowd than in years past.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Santa Cruz saw a relatively peaceful Fourth of July, with "no reported major acts of violence or crime," police said. During the 24-hour period, officers made 10 arrests, mostly for disorderly conduct, and issued six citations, the Santa Cruz Police Department said.

An estimated 5,000 came to the beach, far lower than past years, and police maintained an all-day presence there.
