Gilroy Woman Killed While Walking Granddaughter to School
The fatal accident occurred near the intersection of Tatum and Wren Avenues.

UPDATE 10:30 a.m. TUESDAY
A 65-year-old woman was struck and killed by a truck while walking her granddaughter to school Monday morning near Gilroy, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman was walking east along Tatum Avenue near Wren Avenue with her 7-year-old granddaughter around 7:50 a.m. and was struck by a 1994 Kenworth three-axle truck heading in the same direction, CHP officials said.

The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, according to the CHP. Her name has not been released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as of Tuesday morning.
The truck driver, a 52-year-old Gilroy man, was not injured, CHP officials said. The roadway was closed for about four hours for the investigation into the collision, according to the CHP.

It does not appear the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the collision occurred, CHP officials said.

A woman was fatally struck by a car as she was walking her granddaughter to school just outside of Gilroy this morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
A car hit the woman, a Gilroy resident at least 60 years old, near Tatum and Wren avenues, CHP Officer Christopher Miceli said.
Officers were notified of the collision around 8:10 a.m. Emergency crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Her 7-year-old granddaughter was not injured, Miceli said.
The woman’s name had not been released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as of Monday afternoon.
