How Do You Want Your Museum to Look?
Santa Cruzans were given a chance to vote on and suggest improvements to the outside of the Museum of Art & History Tuesday.
Kids want a climbing wall; almost everyone wants a water wall and a place for music; artists want more places to hang and display art; some people want food trucks.
These were some of the things that came out Tuesday night as the museum known for bringing a spirit of innovation to Santa Cruz let people vote and comment on its walls about what they would like to see in the 10,000 square feet of public space outside the building, called Abbott Square.
Museum director Nina Simon would like to see Abbott Square become more of a public gathering place with music and art and performances such as the fire art exhibit that drew thousands there last year.

She's working on proposals that range from $50,000 to $500,000, based on the amount of funds they can raise. She thinks something can be done within a year.
They held four days of public meetings in February and the input from them shaped the proposals in the above photos.

There will be more chances to vote online at santacruzmah.org soon. Meanwhile, Simon says she'd like to hear comments from the public by email, which is on the MAH site.
