Man Arrested After Burglary At Santa Cruz Frozen Yogurt Store

Deputies arrested a man with the yogurt store's cash register, and glass shards in his shoes and pants, police said.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A man was arrested this week in connection with a burglary at the Top A Lot frozen yogurt store in Santa Cruz.

Andre Murphy, 49, of Oakland was arrested by Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputies during a traffic stop in the Campbell area, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department. Police said he had the store's cash register, and glass shards from the store's entrance in his shoes and pants.

Deputies called Santa Cruz police and asked them to check on the frozen yogurt store on Water Street. Police arrived to find the front glass door shattered and the register missing.

The business owner was shown photos of the items found by Santa Clara County deputies and confirmed that the register, cash and gift certificates were stolen, police said.

Murphy was cited and released due to COVID-19 limitations, police said.
