Man Arrested For Setting His Mobile Home On Fire, Santa Cruz Co. Sheriff's Officials Say

BREAKING: Fire officials said Gustavo Monroy Carlos was arrested after admitting to authorities that he started the fire on his couch.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — An unincorporated Live Oak resident has been arrested on suspicion of setting his mobile home on fire early this morning after admitting to authorities that he started the fire on his couch. According to the Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County, Gustavo Monroy Carlos was taken into custody following his admission to fire and sheriff's investigators.

Fire crews were dispatched to the blaze at 2:02 a.m. at 2546 Capitola Road. Firefighters worked to keep the blaze off of an adjacent trailer, which suffered minimal exposure damage. Carlos was initially unaccounted for, fire district officials said.

A second engine that arrived on scene prepared for a rescue but Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies later found him uninjured a short time later. The mobile home is considered a total loss.
