Man Hit in the Head with a Rock; Suspect Arrested on the Levee

a 52-year-old man was hit in the head with a rock thrown by a 20-year-old sitting with a group of people on the levee path, near Front Street Tuesday morning at 11:15.

According to the victim, Samuel Battle, of Santa Cruz, threw a rock at his head. Battle ran off headed north on the levee and the victim was able to flag down assistance on Front Street from a First Alarm guard.

A Santa Cruz Police Department Parks Unit officer found Battle and he was positively ID’d by the suspect. The victim sustained minor injury to his head and refused medical attention. Mr. Battle was booked at County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
