Pedestrian Fatally Struck In Santa Cruz Hit-And-Run

The man was found lying in the middle of the roadway in the 100 block of Encinal Street around 7:30 a.m., police said.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Santa Cruz early this morning, according to police. The man was found lying in the middle of the roadway in the 100 block of Encinal Street around 7:30 a.m., police said.

An initial investigation determined that a large industrial vehicle struck the victim and left the scene.
Police said they located the truck and the driver who hit the man and said the driver claimed he didn't know the incident happened. The driver was fully cooperative with police and wasn't arrested or citied, however, the
truck was taken as evidence, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation. The victim's name won't be released until his next of kin is
notified, police said. Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have any information on the case is asked to call police at (831) 420-5820 or anonymously at (831) 420-5995.
