Body Found After Man Swept Off Davenport Rocks

This is the second time in three days a person was swept to sea in the area.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The body of a 30-year-old man was found Tuesday evening after he was swept off the rocks at Panther State Beach Tuesday.

This is the second time in three days that a beachgoer was swept to sea near Davenport.

Witnesses called 911 to report the man had gone into the ocean around 4 p.m., the Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit said on Twitter. The body was spotted shortly before 6 p.m., but swimmers could not reach him.

Rescuers recovered the man's body after the tide receded.

The rescue prompted a significant official response. Cal Fire, Santa Cruz Fire, Central Fire Protection District, Santa Cruz Harbor Patrol, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Coast Guard were on scene.
