I caught a look at these old Stingrays and, like Marcel Proust sipping tea, I flashed back on my whole childhood.Â
I built a Stingray in my garage from a frame someone threw away and parts I collected bit by bit. It was the height --Â and still is --of anything I've done mechanical.Â
And as I was browsing at Family Cycling Center, I caught a look at some retro-style bikes with a big twist. Electra cruisers bring back the old style for cruising to the grocery store bikes.  I picked them up and thought why would anyone pay $875 for such a heavy bike? But the California company, started by a Swiss native who loves California style, has been selling cruisers like crazy, based on the fashion statement. They are the Stingrays of today.
The Stingrays, by the way, aren't for sale. The Electras are.Â
Did you ever ride a bike with one of those banana seats? Mine was electric blue. Wish I still had it.Â
If you have an Electra, could you post a review and some pics? Thanks.Â
