Piney Fire Near Full Containment: Cal Fire

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — The Piney Fire in Monterey County remains at 225 acres and is 98% contained, Cal Fire posted on social media at 11:41 a.m. Sunday.

Operations are focused on monitoring for any flare-ups and reinforcing containment lines, especially in areas with steep or challenging terrain, according to Cal Fire.

The fire started on Tuesday off Hastings Reservation Road and Martin Road, near the unincorporated community of Jamesburg, about 10 miles southeast of Carmel Valley.
It grew to 221 acres by Wednesday evening but was slowed as 428 firefighters engaged the flames.
Evacuation orders and warnings were issued for some residents north of Martin Road on Tuesday and were lifted on Wednesday.

No injuries or damage to structures was reported.
The cause remained under investigation as of Sunday.
