UPDATE: 'Pocket Full of Soul,' the Rare Harmonica Movie, Will Show Feb. 28

Pocket Full of Soul, the movie about the history of the harmonica, has only been shown rarely around the country, and it will be seen in Santa Cruz Feb. 28, after enough people bought advance tickets.

It's slated for the Nickelodeon on Feb. 28. at 7:30 p.m.

Narrated by Huey Lewis, the film delves into the backstory and the modern story of the world's most popularly purchased instrument, that is as uncommonly mastered as it is commonly found. (Who hasn't gotten one in their Christmas stocking?)

The best thing about the film is that it covers modern masters, such as Jason Ricci, Kim Wilson and classical player Robert Bonfiglio.

It's the first documentary about the harmonica (nicknamed the blues harp and Mississippi saxophone)  and should really give some color to the instrument that is too often considered a toy (but what great blues band doesn't have one?).

I don't know if this makes the movie, but Carlos Santana used to check into hotels under the name of Walter Jacobs, the real name of Little Walter. Why? Because his guitar style is very influenced by the harmonica, he told me once in an interview.
