SANTA CRUZ, CA — A driver was arrested with a gun late Thursday night after leading officials on a pursuit through Santa Cruz County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Gregorio Alcaraz, 34, of Little Rock, California was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, evading police and possessing a concealed gun, CHP said in a statement. He was not in jail as of Friday morning.

The chase began in Santa Cruz after a white semitractor-trailer driven by Alcaraz was involved in a crash, the CHP said. Santa Cruz police chased him on southbound State Route 1 but stopped around Freedom Boulevard after calling the CHP for help, according to the statement.

The CHP caught up to him near San Andreas Boulevard and tried to pull him over, but Alcaraz continued into Monterey County, the CHP said. Officers dropped a spike strip to disable his car and effectively ended the pursuit near Dolan Road, where Alcaraz was arrested without incident, CHP said.

CHP said officers searched his car and found a gun inside.
