Police Search For Suspect In Violent Sexual Assault In Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Police in Santa Cruz released a sketch Saturday of a suspect who allegedly violently sexually assaulted a woman on Aug. 8 in the Seabright area.

The woman reported being attacked while walking sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. near the 400 block of Frederick Street.

The victim suffered traumatic injuries in the violent assault, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.

Detectives searched the area that day following the report but were unable to locate the suspect, who was described as a white man in his mid to late 20s with a thin build and about 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9.

The Santa Cruz Police Department said it increased patrols in the neighborhood where the assault was reported and advised residents in the area to remain alert, especially in isolated and low-visibility areas.

Police asked anyone who sees the suspect or recognizes the man from the department's sketch to call 911 immediately. Tips can also be left at the department's non-emergency line at (831) 471-1131 and can be reported anonymously at (831) 420-5995.
