Probationer Arrested On Suspicion Of Burglarizing Home

Police said the man was found to be in possession of a large box of antique coins and stolen credit cards, which were tied to a burglary.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A Santa Cruz man was arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a home after he was discovered with several stolen items in his possession on Saturday night, police said. Santa Cruz police said officers were conducting an area check of a shopping center in the 900 block of Soquel Avenue Saturday around 8 p.m.

The officers noticed the suspect, 41-year-old Jeremy Smith of Santa Cruz, acting suspiciously while walking through the shopping center parking lot. One of the officers recognized Smith, who is on probation, from
previous encounters with police.

Smith was searched and allegedly found to be in possession of a large box of antique coins and stolen credit cards, which police tied to a residential burglary almost two weeks ago. The burglary at the residence, which occurred in the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office jurisdiction, involved the stolen coins, multiple computers, jewelry and other personal belongings, which Santa Cruz police said they were able to recover after Smith's arrest.
