Updated: Santa Cruz Woman Dies In Scott Creek Crash

A Santa Cruz resident, driving a 2013 Subaru on Highway 1 north of Swanton Road, went down a sheer cliff and fell several hundred feet.

UPDATE 11:15AM TUESDAY

A woman killed in a car crash over a cliff Monday morning off of state Highway 1 has been identified as 46-year-old Susan Brown, according to the Santa Cruz County coroner’s office.

Brown, a Santa Cruz resident, was driving a 2013 Subaru on northbound Highway 1 north of Swanton Road around 11:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol officials said.

She drove the vehicle off the roadway, went down a sheer cliff and fell several hundred feet before it landed on its roof at a beach, according to the CHP.

Investigators have not determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash and are awaiting toxicology results, CHP officials said.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY - Rescue crews are confirming the death of at least one person Monday when a vehicle apparently drove off the oceanside cliff of state Highway 1 and crashed hundreds of feet below.

A tweet shortly before noon stated crews from Cal Fire, the Santa Cruz Fire Department, and California State Parks were responding to reports of a vehicle off the cliff on state Highway 1 just south of Scott Creek.

About 12:30 p.m., a second tweet confirmed a fatality.

Units are now on scene for an for extrication and body recovery, and to recover the vehicle.
