SANTA CRUZ, CA —In 2021, a new state law went into effect requiring menstrual products to be available at all public schools, state universities and community college districts. The County of Santa Cruz is also now joining that effort.

As part of the movement for period equity, the county is launching a free menstrual product program for members of the community. Offering free products in select county restrooms, the program is intended to assist low-income residents who struggle to afford menstrual products.

“Free and equal access to health products promotes health equity, and no one should be forced to choose between purchasing hygiene products or food and shelter,” Supervisor Zach Friend said “I’m pleased the County is joining a growing movement in addressing these inequities.”
