Santa Cruz County Possible DUI Crash: 1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured
A 45-year-old man suspected of drunk driving died in a car crash near Santa Cruz on Saturday and his male passenger was seriously injured.
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA -- A 45-year-old man died and his male passenger was seriously injured near Santa Cruz on Saturday in a car crash that authorities say may have been caused by drunk driving.
The 45-year-old was driving a 2007 BMW 328i north on Soquel San Jose Road south of Old Turnpike Road around 10:20 p.m. when he lost control of the car, overturned and struck a tree, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
He and his 42-year-old passenger were transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, where the driver was pronounced dead.

The CHP is investigating the crash, and the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office is expected to identify the man once his family has been notified.
