Highway 17 Rider Run Over By Big Rig, Seriously Hurt
The man suffered life-threatening injuries after he apparently lost control and was struck on Highway 17.
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A 32-year-old Santa Cruz man suffered life-threatening injuries after losing control of his motorcycle and being struck the trailer of a big rig Friday on state Highway 17 in Scotts Valley, the California Highway Patrol said.
The motorcyclist was traveling southbound between lanes and next to a 2014 Peterbilt truck on Highway 17 north of Sugarloaf Road when he lost control and went down on the pavement for unknown reasons, the CHP said. The driver of the truck, a 54-year-old from Los Banos, was unable to avoid the rider, who was struck by the trailer.
A CHP officer provided medical aid to the rider, who was then taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor, the CHP said.
