Santa Cruz Police Investigating Fatal Shooting

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting and the suspect remains at large.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night in Santa Cruz. At 10:18 p.m., officers were flagged down in the area of the San Lorenzo River Levee and the Broadway Bridge for a report of a man down in the area, police said.

Officers located an unconscious and unidentified Hispanic male victim with several gunshot wounds to his head and body, police said. Officers rendered aid to the victim, then requested further aid
from Santa Cruz Fire Department paramedics. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police canvassed the area and located several bullet casing. They have not determined a motive for the shooting, police said. The case remains under investigation and anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Detective Fincutter at (831) 420-5943.
