Second Wave of Catalytic Converter Thefts Tuesday

Several days after announcing a new plan to help secure the expensive air protection units, Santa Cruz Police had more thefts reported.

Four more catalytic converters were stolen late night Monday and early morning Tuesday, according to Santa Cruz Police.

They were taken from Toyota 4Runners, on the west side of Santa Cruz. The thefts occurred on Monterey Avenue, Centennial, Continental and Nevada streets.

Eight converters were stolen overnight November 26/27, prompting police to team with Toyota of Santa Cruz to launch a program to help make the expensive units more secure. The car dealer off 41st Avenue will do the modification until the end of the year in return for a food donation for the Second Harvest Food Bank or Toys for Tots.
