Serious Injuries In Santa Cruz Carjacking
The driver of that vehicle suffered serious injuries and had to be pulled away from the wreckage before it started burning.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A man believed to have carjacked a Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation truck from a city employee was rescued Saturday from the wrecked vehicle a short time later, just as it caught fire, Santa Cruz police said. Police were called about 1:35 p.m. Saturday by the parks employee whose marked city truck had just been stolen. Officers said they found that vehicle a few minutes later, crashed near the corner of Branciforte Drive and Glen Canyon Road near the park.
The driver of that vehicle, Angel Garibay, who turned 36 Saturday, had suffered serious injuries and had to be pulled away from the wreckage before it started burning, police said. Garibay was treated by paramedics with the Santa Cruz Fire Department and American Medical Response at the
scene. Officers from the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office also responded.
Garibay was arrested for carjacking and robbery, and taken to a trauma center for treatment of "significant" injuries, police said. Anyone who saw any of this incident, or who may otherwise have relevant information, is asked to call the Santa Cruz Police Department Investigation Section at (831) 471-1131 or (831) 420-5820.
