Sheriff's Office Reporting Mudslides, Trees Down in Santa Cruz County

BREAKING: Commuters are advised to avoid Eureka Canyon Road just past Rider Road.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office this morning is reporting a mudslide due to inclement weather has partially blocked a southbound lane of state Highway 9 in the area of Highlands Park. The sheriff's office is reporting another slide in the 4900 block of state Highway 9. Crews are responding to the areas.

The incidents were reported just after 6 a.m. Around 5 a.m., the sheriff's office reported a tree down on Eureka Canyon Road just past Rider Road. Eureka Canyon Road is closed in both directions, according to the
sheriff's office. Commuters are advised to avoid the area.

Inclement weather this morning has also caused a tree and wires down on Park Avenue in Capitola.
PG&E is responding to the scene, according to the sheriff's office. That incident was reported just after 5 a.m.
