State Funds Pay For Mobile Substation In Santa Cruz County

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — State funding has enabled the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office to acquire a vehicle for a mobile substation, according to sheriff's officials. Recently, the sheriff's office was awarded financing from the California State Homeland Security Grant Program to purchase a Dodge Ram Promaster Van, deputies said.
The mobile substation was outfitted with a desk, a mobile data computer, police radio, wireless internet and a large screen monitor, according to the sheriff's office. The substation will be used for five areas of public safety: crime prevention, community policing, as an emergency command post, criminal investigation and training, deputies said.
The sheriff's office mobile substation is now in use and will be utilized to support operations in any of those areas to maintain a presence in the department and the community, sheriff's officials said.
