Stray Bullet Injured Man Walking Dog Near Santa Cruz Boardwalk

BREAKING: Paramedics took the man to a trauma center for treatment of his injuries.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A 32-year-old man walking his dog near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk was shot in the torso by a stray bullet Thursday night, according to police. Witnesses told police that the gunfire had come from a group of men and women involved in an altercation with an intoxicated man at Leibrandt Avenue and Beach Street around 9:30 p.m.

Paramedics took the man to a trauma center for treatment of his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk had been closed since 5 p.m.
