Highway 1 Traffic Delays Expected During Caltrans Work

Drivers will encounter intermittent closures of the state Highway 1/state Highway 17 connector ramps in Santa Cruz.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A project to resurface state Highway 1 from the North Aptos undercrossing north to the state Highway 9 junction in Santa Cruz—about seven miles—will begin Monday, with work set to take place five overnights a week between 9 p.m. and no later than 6 a.m., according to Caltrans. Drivers will encounter intermittent closures of the state Highway 1/state Highway 17 connector ramps in Santa Cruz; Caltrans will announce in advance when the closures will occur.

In addition to repaving, this project will include upgrades to Americans with Disabilities accessibility ramps, bridge rail replacement at the Fish Hook and Ocean Street bridges, improvements to electrical systems, bridge deck treatments and the replacement of concrete barriers. The overall project is expected to finished by the end of 2020.
