UC Santa Cruz Grad, Bay Area Activist Appointed To Richmond City Council
BREAKING: Her past experience includes an internship with Causa Justa, a social justice organization serving low-income residents.

RICHMOND, CA — A 26-year-old activist has been appointed to the Richmond City Council after a seat was vacated by Gayle McLaughlin, who resigned in July to run for the state's lieutenant governor seat, according to Mayor Tom Butt. Ada Recinos graduated from University of California at Santa Cruz in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in global information and social enterprise studies. She works as an advancement manager at Prospera, a nonprofit that partners with Latina immigrants in Oakland to build co-op businesses.
Her past experience includes an internship with Causa Justa, a social justice organization serving low-income residents of San Francisco and Oakland, as well as working as a research analyst with the Migrant Legal
Action Program.
She is a member of the Richmond Progressive Alliance, as are three other Richmond City Council members, and has served on the city's Human Rights and Human Relations commission since January 2016.
Recinos was appointed by a unanimous vote of the City Council, although Butt said in a statement that some councilmembers appeared to be willing to support another candidate.
