May Day Plans for 2012 and Video From the May Day Riot 2010

The violence against local businesses shocked the community and cost thousands in damages.

These videos caught the mayhem downtown two years ago.

Here's what is planned for this year, according to IndyBay Media.

WORKER & STUDENT ACTION - 11:30am - UCSC Quarry Plaza
ACTIVITIES & WORKSHOPS - 1:30pm - UCSC Campus Entrance
RALLY - 3:00pm - UCSC Campus Entrance
MARCH to downtown
COMMUNITY RALLY - 5:30pm – Santa Cruz Main Post Office
REEL WORK LABOR FILM FESTIVAL - 7:00pm - Del Mar Theatre

DOWNTOWN SANTA CRUZ:

MARCH - Gather at 4:30 pm at the corner of Pacific and Laurel, where we will meet up with UCSC students who are marching from the base of campus. We will march down Pacific Avenue, pass by Wells Fargo, and finish at the Santa Cruz Post Office to join the Rally.

RALLY - 5:30 pm in front of the Santa Cruz Post Office with labor unions, students, community members and Occupy Santa Cruz.

FOOD AND GAMES - Beginning at 6:30 pm, there will be food and games in San Lorenzo Park.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL - At approximately 8:00 pm there will be a candlelight vigil on the courthouse steps commemorating all those who have died, been beaten, imprisoned, tortured, and otherwise made sacrifices in struggles for workers' justice around the world, from the Haymarket Riots of 1886 (which International Workers' Day commemorates) to today.
