Water Main Break Affecting Service To Santa Cruz Co. Jail
Drivers were asked to temporarily avoid the area.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A water main break in Santa Cruz has affected water service to the county jail and county government building and closed eastbound Water Street between Ocean and River streets this afternoon, according to police. Police said Santa Cruz county officials are working to make sure the government building and jail, both located at 259 Water Street, both see a minimal impact from the break.
Water and other necessary hygiene equipment are being given to staff and inmates to avoid any inconveniences from the break. Police said traffic is being detoured around the break and drivers are encouraged to use Soquel Avenue and South River Street as alternate routes.
The break is expected to be repaired by the city in less than 12 hours, police said. Westbound Water Street will most likely be closed into the evening.
