Big Party SATURDAY!: When One Bridge Closes, Another Opens

The Bay Bridge is closing Labor Day Weekend, but the La Fonda Bridge, over Highway 1 opens this Saturday.

The celebration of the new overpass between Harbor High School and the neighborhood on the other side of the freeway, goes Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. People can walk and bike it. There will be food and photographers. After noon, cars will be allowed to drive it. 

Not that you need one, but you can find an invitation to the ribbon cutting here. 

P.S.: Despite being called a bridge by the county's transit agency, one astute Patch reader noted that bridges are over water. Overpasses are over roads. Nit picky or good use of the language? I never knew it until he pointed it out.

PPSS: Don't forget the bigger Bay Bridge will be closed down from Aug. 26 to Sept. 2, as it says on all those lit-up traffic signs along the freeways. No walking party scheduled there yet.
