Wind Advisory Issued for New Storm Headed to Santa Cruz Co. This Week: NWS
Heavy rain is predicted and wind gusts will exceed 50 mph in higher elevations. (Breaking)
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the San Francisco Bay Area that will take effect Thursday. The advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. Thursday until 3 a.m. Friday. The rain is also returning to the Bay Area later this week, with some areas receiving up to three inches, according to the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service, south winds will be between 15 and 30 mph, with gusts of over 40 mph in lower elevations. Gusts will exceed 50 mph in higher elevations.
Rain is expected to begin onshore Wednesday afternoon, becoming widespread across the region by late Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, according to meteorologist Rick Canepa. Canepa said the overall rainfall would be moderate with most of the heavy rain in the North Bay and Santa Cruz mountains as well as further down south in the Monterey area.

Winds could result in downed trees and power lines, and make driving conditions difficult, NWS officials said. Officials said the rain and high winds are expected to taper off by late Friday evening.
