SANTA MONICA, CA — One student was injured and another was in police custody after a fight broke out at Santa Monica High School Thursday, the district's first day back from summer break.
A student was sent to the hospital with a non-life-threatening "facial laceration," according to the Santa Monica Police Department. The student was injured by an "unknown sharp object," according to Santa Monica High School Principal Marae Cruce. Another juvenile student was taken into police custody after running off campus after the fight, authorities said.
There were no additional injuries, authorities said. Police officers remained on campus, but school remained open and classes continued Thursday, according to police.
