SANTA MONICA, CA — The City of Santa Monica introduced the Reed Park Pop-Up Grant Program last week. The program is a new opportunity for Santa Monica residents, businesses and community organizations to "engage and connect with one another" through temporary enhancements, events or programming in Reed Park, the City of Santa Monica press release said.

The City has made improvements to the park, launched new programs like Meet Me at Reed and offered incentives for park activation, including waiving certain charges for fitness trainers. Now, the City is offering $500 grants to people and organizations who can create a community and "activate Reed," the press release said.

"Parks enhance the City’s neighborhoods, serve as focal points, foster civic pride and identity, and offer access to sports, recreation, entertainment, learning, and social connection," the City said.

The grants are available for "positive and innovative" uses of the park, which will help contribute to a year-round activity calendar. Grants will be awarded twice a year — Cycle 1 2020 Grants open on October 1 and are due November 1 for pop-ups between January and June of 2020.
