SANTA MONICA, CA — A former Navy Seal faces 15 years to life in prison in connection with a 2016 murder in Santa Monica, the city of Santa Monica announced Tuesday.

Theo Krah's sentencing will occur on Aug. 1 at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Krah was found guilty on July 8 for one count of second degree murder, authorities said. He was arrested and charged with murder in 2016 in connection with a murder in Santa Monica, at which point he was a Navy Seal.

On June 11, 2016, the Santa Monica Police Department found a man with "severe trauma to the face and head" on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of 5th street, authorities said. The man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Just an hour earlier, SMPD addressed a verbal altercation between Krah and the victim at the Santa Monica Pier but ultimately let both go. The department later turned up surveillance footage showing Krah had followed the man from the pier into Downtown Santa Monica and "brutally assaulted" him, according to the city of Santa Monica.
