Get Your Fireworks Fix Early at Santa Monica College

Santa Monica College hosts its Independence Day festivities Saturday with fireworks and entertainment.

"Celebrate America," a popular outdoor festival at that honors Independence Day early will feature live music by Chris Mulkey n' Delux, a regular at the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard.

The 30th anniversary celebration is Saturday and will also include food trucks, and food booths manned by local chapters of the Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, and the the college's athletics department.

After the sun sets, the night's festivities will culminate with a spectacular fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Picnicking is welcome, but alcoholic beverages, glass containers, barbecues, fireworks and chairs with pointed legs are prohibited.

The event is at the Corsair Field, at 1900 Pico Blvd.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with entertainment at 6:45 p.m. and the fireworks at 9 p.m. The event is free and parking is $5. For more information, call (310) 434-3001.
